EDMONTON – Responsible Hospitality Edmonton is launching a new educational campaign to help young adults stay safe when they go out to party at night.
The campaign, called ‘Have a Game Plan’, will officially begin on September 12 and runs until the end of October. It will be focused on Whyte Avenue and Jasper Avenue.
It’s geared towards 18 to 21-year-olds, many of whom are living on their own in a new city for the first time.
“Around this time of year, with school back in session, we see a huge influx of young adults heading out to bars and clubs, particularly in the entertainment areas,” explained Angela Turner, the city’s program manager for Responsible Hospitality Edmonton.
“We want to ensure a safe party environment for everyone by reminding people that simple actions will help them get home safely.”
The campaign offers tips to partygoers like planning ahead for transportation, drinking responsibly, going with friends, and charging their cell phone.
Street teams will be on Whyte and Jasper avenues for the duration of the campaign, increasing awareness.

Social media will also be used in the campaign, including Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtag #haveagameplan.
There is also an interactive map on the website haveagameplan.ca that provides tips and contact numbers that could be useful in various situations.
“Plan ahead is our real message,” added Turner.
“It’s not just about how you’re going to go out and who you’re going to go out with, but how are you going to get home, how are you going to keep everybody safe throughout the whole night.”
