SASKATOON – When the news came down Monday afternoon that Josh Uhrich had been dealt from the Moose Jaw Warriors to the Saskatoon Blades, a childhood dream had been realized.
“I came to Blades games, birthday parties. It was always my dream to be a Blade,” said Uhrich.
Uhrich is originally from Rosetown and played midget hockey with the Saskatoon Contacts. He truly feels he is now back home.
“I’m here all summer with my buddies,” said Uhrich.
“Honestly, the best years of my life were in Saskatoon.”
The transition from Moose Jaw to Saskatoon should be an easy one, with Uhrich’s former Contact teammates welcoming his to the Blades with open arms.
“There are lots of guys I know already. (Blades defenceman) Nelson Nogier is one of my best friends. I can kinda just slide in a feel a part of the group right away.”
The 18-year-old winger will no doubt add grit to the Blades lineup.
In 126 career games, Uhrich has racked up 195 penalty minutes. He also scores a career high nine goals last season with the Warriors and expects to bring a lot to the new look Blades.
“I’m all about my teammates, number one. So If I got to step up for someone, I’ll definitely do that,” admitted Uhrich.
“When I played in Moose Jaw I was a fourth line guy. Dump and chase, go bang bodies, create some energy for the team. I think I can come here and help the team out with some offence.”
Uhrich is expected to make his Blades debut over the weekend in a home and home with Swift Current to wrap up the pre-season schedule.
