Fire damages Colossus roller coaster at Magic Mountain in Southern California

WATCH: Roller coaster on fire at Six Flags caught on camera

A fire on the recently closed Colossus ride at Southern California’s Six Flags Magic Mountain park has collapsed part of the famous wooden roller coaster, but no injuries are reported.

Los Angeles County firefighters got the call around 1:30 p.m. Monday and doused the fire in about a half-hour.

The top of the lift hill on the 38-meter-tall wooden coaster collapsed after flames charred it.

Magic Mountain says workers were disassembling the ride at the time of the fire.

Authorities are trying to determine the cause.

Colossus was the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster when it opened in 1978. It closed on Aug. 17 and will be turned into a longer looping wood and steel coaster called Twisted Colossus that opens next spring.
