SASKATOON – Environment Canada issues a frost advisory and a special weather statement Monday afternoon in central Saskatchewan.
Meteorologists are forecasting a cold front allowing overnight temperatures to drop to or below the freezing mark.
The frost advisory is issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage to plants and crops.
Frost is expected in central areas of the province by early Tuesday morning.
Simultaneously, the special weather statement covers an area in southwest Saskatchewan where the cold front will pass Monday evening.
This will usher in below normal temperatures along with a band of precipitation. With overnight temperatures falling by morning, rain will become mixed with or turn into snow.
Snowfall accumulation will be minimal but it is possible that areas on higher terrain may see up to five centimetres overnight and Tuesday morning.
Global News meteorologist Peter Quinlan says there is a slight chance of a few flurries falling on Saskatoon overnight with no significant accumulation expected.
