Edmonton dealership damaged in fire

EDMONTON – A fire broke out at a south Edmonton car dealership early Monday morning.

Crews were called to the Capital GMC Buick dealership at 34 Ave. and 97 St. at 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming out of the building.

Crews had to be especially careful because of the size of the building.

“We know that when we go to these types of fires there’s going to be hazards involved,” explained District Chief Randy Shakura, Edmonton Fire Rescue. “We do primitive plans of a lot of the businesses in town so we do know we can expect to find hazardous material on site.”

It wasn’t clear immediately after the blaze what started the fire or the extent of the damage.
