COCHRANE- A semi truck collided with a motorcycle at a traffic circle on Highway 8 and Highway 22 late Saturday morning.
A man in his 50s who was riding the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the semi truck was uninjured. EMS arrived on scene just after 12 p.m.
Another man riding tandem on a different motorcycle witnessed the collision, as he was travelling with the man who was killed.
Stuart Brideaux from EMS said they remained on scene to provide support for the man travelling with the motorcyclist that was killed.
“He fortunately is not physically injured but he is regrettably a first party witness to what occurred,” Brideaux said.
Witnesses told RCMP the motorcyclist that was killed was travelling northbound on Highway 22 approaching the traffic circle intersection at Highway 8 when he failed to yield for the semi truck and trailer unit that was going through the circle.
The motorcyclist then hit the trailer unit and was killed instantly.
Highway 22 northbound was temporarily closed.
