HALIFAX – If you’ve ever dreamed of traveling to Italy, there’s a cheaper way to do it this weekend: that’s because there’s a little taste of Italy in Halifax.
The annual Italian Weekend is in full swing at the Italian Canadian Cultural Association (ICCA) on Agricola Street.
The event has been in Halifax for more than 30 years.
Food is a main draw for attendees; Haligonians can sample lasagna, gnocchi, meatballs and pizza.
But David Mio, the president of ICCA, said the festival is about much more than just food.
“We want people to understand that Italians are a big part of the community here in Nova Scotia,” he said.
“We’ve been here for a while and we just want to share our heritage, foods and culture with anybody who would like to come.”
The festival runs until 10 p.m. on Saturday and continues from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
