SAINT-LOUIS-DE-KENT, N.B. – A man and woman are dead after trying to avoid a moose on an eastern New Brunswick highway and colliding head-on with an oncoming truck carrying six people, including three children.
The RCMP say the victims, both in their early 60s, were headed north Thursday night on Route 11 near Saint-Louis-de-Kent when their van struck a moose, killing the animal.
Investigators believe the man and woman from Miramichi tried to avoid the animal and crossed the centre line, crashing into a pickup truck carrying three adults and three children.
Police say the impact forced both vehicles off the road, while a third vehicle carrying two adults drove off the road to avoid the crash.
The Mounties say a number of people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
