KELOWNA — An investigation is underway after a late night house fire Wednesday. Initial reports were that flames were spotted on the roof on the Autumn Road home, but when crews arrived on scene they found the fire in the basement.

Reports are one person was inside the home at the time and escaped safely.

Crews managed to contain the fire to the bottom floor, albeit with some help. Investigators say the home’s water supply helped the fire fight.

“It appears possibly plumbing had let go in another room that held the fire at bay until our fire crews arrived,” says fire investigator Rick Euper.

The room where the fire started suffered severe damage and there was some damage throughout the house. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
