ABOVE: Harvey the Hound takes the Ice Bucket Challenge
CALGARY – The faithful mascot of the Calgary Flames has taken the Ice Bucket Challenge.
In a video posted to the team’s website on Wednesday, Harvey the Hound can be seen getting doused with a garbage can full of icy cold water as he stands on the floor of the Saddledome.
Before accepting the challenge, Harvey uses cue-cards to nominate Calgary Flames President Ken King.
Afterward, the soggy doggy holds up a final cue card, encouraging viewers to donate money to ALS Canada.
ALS is a terminal disease that affects approximately 3,000 Canadians.
The disease is characterized by progressive paralysis of muscles throughout the body. Ninety per cent of ALS patients die within five years of diagnosis; some die less than a year after they are diagnosed.
ALS Canada says two out of 100,000 people aged 18 and older are diagnosed each year.
The aim of the Ice Bucket Challenge is to raise awareness and funds to fight ALS.
It’s become a viral sensation, with everyone from celebrities to professional athletes taking part and posting videos online.
