‘It is literally a back alley rape’ say experts, of random attack

CALGARY- Women around Calgary are on high alert, after a woman was randomly attacked and sexually assaulted.

Early Monday morning, the victim was walking through an alley in Coral Springs when two men attacked her. She suffered serious head injuries and a broken arm, and at least one of the men sexually assaulted her.

“It is literally a back alley rape,” said forensic psychologist Dr. Patrick Baillie.

“She’s minding her own business, making her way home, and suddenly becomes the victim of this kind of an attack.”

Police are still working to determine where the original crime scene is, as it’s not known how far the victim walked before getting help, or in what direction.

“This is not a typical sort of case for sex crimes to investigate, and a challenge for police to put the pieces together.”

They also want to speak with two drivers who passed the woman while she was in distress, but did not pull over.

“While there may be some embarrassment that they didn’t help, there is a chance to help the investigation now,” Baillie said.

So far, no suspects have been identified, and Baillie adds that the fact that two people were involved is unusual.

“It increases the risk that somebody is going to say something. I suspect there would be a tendency to lie low for awhile, and I would doubt these two individuals would want to pair up again because of being linked to this sort of offence.”

The victim has since been released from hospital, and a sketch of the suspects is expected to be released later this week.
