Having three kids on the first day of school makes for a hectic morning. The Baldock family was busy early Tuesday morning, making lunches and packing school supplies. They have three kids, Jake, Seth, and Anna, all of which will attend school this year in Coaldale.
But something is different this year. The family now has two children in middle School. Anna is in grade eight, and Seth is heading into grade five. He is entering his first year in middle school which can feel a bit daunting.
“Yes, I’m a bit worried about making new friends and stuff.”
But after getting to school and navigating through the hallways, Seth realized many of his friends were in his classes, making for an easier transition. Though as Seth’s dad Matt explained, kids leaving for school can still be tough on parents.
“Yeah it’s crazy because I still remember when they were this big and running around and all they cared about was snacks and naps and playing.”
And with the new school year comes a reminder to slow down. School zones are back in effect and drivers can expect to see police patrolling around schools in both Lethbridge and Coaldale. The zones have a speed limit of 30 km per hour — Monday to Friday — 7:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
