Police ID arson suspect after two more car set on fire in North York

TORONTO – Police have arrested a 30-year-old man after two more car fires in the Jane and Finch area of the city – the same neighbourhood where several cars were torched earlier this month.

Wilfred Akiwenzie of Toronto has been charged with seven counts of arson and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

In the latest incident, two vehicles were set on fire early Sunday morning while they sat parked in driveways.

As firefighters were dousing the first vehicle on Richard Clark Dr. they became aware that another car was on fire just around the corner on Calais Ave., and they ran over with a hose.

The damage to the two vehicles was extensive, but no one was injured.

On Aug. 11 eight cars were torched at a used car lot on Toro Road near Finch Ave. W. and Keele St. A day prior, several cars were destroyed by fire in the Jane St. and Wilson Avenue area.
