Edmonton police ask for help finding who’s behind $6M Windermere condo arson

EDMONTON — Edmonton arson investigators have released video footage from a March condo fire in Windermere, in hopes of finding who was behind the blaze.

“We’ve been hard at this investigation for several months now, and we believe there may be more than one suspect involved,” said Staff Sgt. Terry Innes, of the EPS Arson Section.

“We’re hopeful that a member of the public, who might see this video footage, may come forward with information regarding suspects.”

The fire caused $6 million in damages to the Essence at Windermere South condo development, which was under construction at the time.

Emergency crews were called to the development, located near 10 Avenue and 173 Street southwest, around 3:30 a.m. on March 15.

Roughly 12 fire trucks and 50 firefighters responded.

Shortly after the fire, Cove Properties released a statement saying “from the initial review of the footage captured by our security cameras on site, it appears an individual broke into our building early Saturday morning and set one or more fires inside.”

Police are asking anyone with information about this arson, including potential suspects or vehicles that were seen at the scene of the fire, to contact them at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.  Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
