KELOWNA — You won’t see her anchoring the 6:30 p.m. news Friday, instead, Global Okanagan’s Klaudia Van Emmerik opted to spend the day locked in a kennel. She’s behind bars for a good reason: all to raise money for the Kelowna SPCA.

“My number one passion is animals and I would do anything for them,” says Van Emmerik. “I would stay in the cage, 24 hours, 48 hours.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Her partners in crime are Christy Farrell and Ian MacKinnon from 99.9 Sun Fm, Alex Draper from the West Side Warriors and Cheryll Gillespie and her daughter Sam Shakura from Rock House Design.

The money raised will go towards the SPCA’s largest annual fundraiser, Paws for a Cause. Last year the kennel lock-in netted $13,000 and SPCA officials hope to surpass that this year.

“Every single penny raised come back to the Kelowna shelter,” says Kelowna SPCA branch manager, Suzanne Pugh. They money raised will cover medical costs and other shelter expenses.
