Police in the UK on Thursday released dramatic footage of the moment that officers were forced to stop a driver speeding down the wrong way on a motorway – by allowing him to crash into their vehicle.
Footage from the dashboard camera shows the lights of the oncoming car and officers blocking the road with their vehicle to engineer the collision.

The officer in the car can be heard saying: “He’s gonna hit, he’s gonna hit, he’s going to hit us!” as the car, travelling at a speed of 80 kilometres per hour, crashes into the police car.
Police said the driver, a 77-year-old man with dementia, was not hurt in the incident late on Monday, near Lichfield.
The man had been reported missing from his home.
One of the police officers sustained minor injuries.

The officers from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) were commended for their action in engineering the collision to prevent the car from causing any other accidents.
A CMPG spokesman said: “Traffic officers bravely took the decision to engineer a collision with the vehicle and I am sure that their selfless actions have prevented serious injury or worse to the driver and other motorists on the road.”
