WINNIPEG – The eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway between Camp Manitou Road and Race Track Road were closed during the morning rush hour after a semi-trailer truck rear-ended a pickup.
The back of the pickup was smashed in and the truck was bent from the force of the impact of the crash at Race Track Road about 5:30 a.m. The eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada remained closed until after 9:30 a.m.
The driver and passenger in the pickup truck, an Alberta couple in their 60s, were taken to hospital in stable condition, police said.
Police said they’re not aware of any injuries to the 27-year-old semi driver, who’s from Winnipeg.
The closure caused major delays for rush hour traffic heading into the city from west of Winnipeg.
Travellers heading into Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada, which becomes Portage Avenue inside city limits, were advised to find an alternate route. Many drivers rerouted onto Roblin Boulevard by taking Highway 334 at Headingley.
