UPDATE: RCMP recover stolen cruiser, arrest suspect

CALGARY – Cochrane RCMP have got their man, and their cruiser too.

Officers had been searching for a suspect since one of their vehicles was stolen on Saturday night.

It happened after RCMP received a report of an impaired driver on Horseshoe Drive in Kananaskis Country.

Officers attended the scene, and placed the suspect in the back of an RCMP vehicle.

However, as they were speaking with people on scene and surveying damaged cars, police were startled to watch the RCMP cruiser speed away.

Despite ground and aerial searches, officers weren’t able to find the car.

Police later issued a warrant for the arrest of 25-year-old Lorenzo Anthony Bearspaw.

He was taken into custody at the Chinook C-Train station parking lot on Tuesday night, after police received a tip from the public.

Nevertheless, despite nabbing the wanted man, police said they still didn’t know the location of the RCMP cruiser, which is equipped with GPS.

It wasn’t until Wednesday morning that officials said the vehicle had in fact been found.

They say the vehicle was recovered sometime between midnight 4 a.m. on the Stoney First Nation.

The incident is now under review.
