TORONTO – Don’t ask Deadmau5 to do the ice bucket challenge.
The Toronto-based music artist suggested Monday he’s not getting involved in the viral stunt, in which people get ice dumped on them and challenge others to endure the same. The campaign is raising millions of dollars — and plenty of awareness — about ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, isn’t buying it.
The electronic music producer explained to his nearly 3 million followers that he is showing his support for the cause in a more effective way.
“I’ll be donating 10k to Lou Gehrig’s disease research while the rest of the circus does f*** all,” he tweeted.
Over the weekend, actor Charlie Sheen had a similar response to the ice bucket challenge. He posted a video showing himself dumping a pot filled with $10,000 in cash over his head.
“Let’s face it, ice is going to melt but this money is actually going to help people,” he explained in a video posted online.
Sheen, who had been challenged by Vancouver Canucks goalie Ryan Miller, challenged his former Two and a Half Men colleagues Jon Cryer and Chuck Lorre as well as his replacement on the sitcom, Ashton Kutcher.
