Blue Bombers big brother

WINNIPEG – For the Andersons, football has always been a family affair, and now the Anderson brothers have been re-united with the Blue Bombers.

The club signed big offensive lineman Chad Anderson, who is the younger brother of Bombers defensive lineman Zach Anderson.

“It’s still hard to believe,” said the little brother.  “The first day I got back, we’re right there back in the gym, and I got my workout partner back, and it’s just so surreal to realize that we’re on a professional team and we’re training again together. Through all the years and all of a sudden we’re still together. It’s just crazy.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Chad was recently cut by the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and the 22-year-old is getting his first taste of the Canadian game. The brothers also played together in high school and college.

“Once I got the word, it’s probably one of the happiest moments,” said Zach Anderson. “We played together all through high school … O-line, D-line. In college at Northern Michigan against each other … O-line, D-line and to have him up here, it’s a dream come true.  Have your little brother play with you? Heck ya!”

He might be Zach’s younger brother but he’s certainly not his little brother. Chad is 6-foot-3, 316 pounds, and Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea had nothing but good things to say about him.

“What our scouts liked about him was that he was, as they put it, a three-hour mauler,” said O’Shea. “He would give his maximum effort hours on end and physically beat people up.”

The Bombers host the Montreal Alouettes on Friday.
