IRELAND, Que. — Two teenagers were killed in a car crash early Tuesday morning in Irlande, about 200 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
According to the Quebec provincial police, the tragedy occurred just after midnight. The car was being driven by a 14-year-old teen, when it left Highway 169 and hit a culvert head-on.
The teen and the passenger, a 17-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at hospital.
Authorities have confirmed that speed and alcohol were not involved, but fatigue may have been a factor.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and to explain why the teenager was behind the wheel.
