UPDATE: Drought Hill fire contained

The fire started Thursday and burned 40 hectares. Ministry Forests

NEAR PEACHLAND — The Drought Hill fire near Peachland that started last Thursday is now contained.

The fire scorched 40 hectares before it was brought under control.

One home – located on MacKinnon Road — was put on evacuation order.  The evacuation order has been downgraded to an alert and is expected to be lifted.

About 50 fire fighters remain on scene doing final mop up.

There were no lightning strikes in the area so investigators are leaning toward human-caused.

The forecast is calling for lightning moving through the Okanagan – particularly the south – on Wednesday.
