Monday Aug. 11th on The Morning News

The 2014 Perseid meteor shower will peak between August 10 and August 13 so that means Monday will be an awesome night to stare at the sky, and the water if you are in Ship Harbour. That’s where you will find stargazers for the 2nd Annual Sealight/Skylight Festival. At 6:45 we’ll meet organizer Kim Thompson to tell us about what’s planned in the sea and in the sky.

At 7:15 we’ll get an update on the story of the Halifax meal program that was recently shut down because of dishwashing practices. Doug MacDonald, Executive Director of Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre, will join us to discuss the situation and how they are moving forward.

The Halifax Summer Opera Festival is celebrating its 10th season. At 7:45 we chat with Director Andrew Pelrine about how the festival has helped his career, and what a great opportunity this is to see highly-trained singers perform in favourite operas.

Never have a dull weekend again!  At 8:15 award-winning journalist and author Jon Tattrie introduces us to his new book Day Trips From Halifax: The ultimate Halifax daytripper’s guide.

Put the BBQ on the backburner and impress your guests with a cocktail party classic. Chef Live gets Back to Basics with Summertime Tapas! We’ll tempt your taste buds Monday at 8:45.
