CALGARY- A major house fire broke out in southeast Calgary on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 1 p.m., fire crews received multiple 911 calls about a fire along Mt McKenzie Drive, in the community of Mountain Park.
Crews rushed to the scene, and found a large volume of smoke and flames when they arrived. As a result, a second alarm was called in.
A family with four children who lived inside got out safely on their own.
Fire crews managed to get the blaze under control a short time later, and managed to keep it from spreading to neighbouring homes. However, the house where the fire started was destroyed.
So far there is no word on a cause, but officials say there were not working smoke detectors inside the house.
