King St. reopens after gas leak in downtown Toronto

TORONTO – A large gas leak in Toronto’s fashion district forced hundreds of people to be evacuated from nearby buildings for close to four hours Wednesday afternoon.

Toronto Fire Services tell Global News the gas line was severed by a construction crew digging near King Street west and Adelaide Street at approximately noon on Wednesday.

King Street was closed between Spadina Avenue and Bathurst Street for the duration of the closure but reopened shortly after 4 p.m.

The 504 King streetcar was also affected by the road closure.
