MILLVILLE, N.B. – A volunteer fire service in a small New Brunswick town is offering service again after losing its gear and building in a suspicious fire a week ago.
The chief of the Millville volunteer fire department says the department’s vehicles are being kept at a nearby provincial Department of Transportation depot.
Justin McGuigan says the fire service is still looking for a permanent home after losing the building, which was also the location for the town council chambers, in a July 28 blaze.
He says police are investigating the case as an arson.
McGuigan says insurance won’t cover all replacement costs for the facility 60 kilometres northwest of Fredericton, and funds are needed to restore the building.
He says the department has traditionally handled about 40 calls a year, including some calls for assistance in search and rescue on local trails.
