WINNIPEG – Traffic came to a halt on Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg when a vehicle caught fire at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The driver ran as soon as the vehicle caught fire, reports from the scene said. Portage Avenue was closed briefly while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The burned-out vehicle was hung up on the median in the centre of Portage at Carlton Street.
One lane of traffic in each direction was reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
