TORONTO – The Special Investigations Unit has been called to probe the death of a man after he was handcuffed by police in Downsview Park overnight.
Ontario’s police watchdog says the 22-year-old man was being treated by paramedics for a “medical distress” when he became violent and was subsequently handcuffed by officers.
The man was later freed and was on his way to hospital when he died.
The SIU investigates all reports where there is death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault involving police officers.
