Friday stabbing becomes Edmonton’s latest homicide

EDMONTON – Edmonton police say a stabbing that happened late Friday night has been confirmed as the city’s 16th homicide of the year.

Around 11 p.m. on Friday, police responded to reports of a man with stab wounds in the area of 105 Avenue and 98 Street.

Officers and paramedics found an unconscious, unresponsive man in an empty lot.

Emery Robert Cardinal, 42, was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Police have charged 36-year-old Jeremy Edward Bemis with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
