Vancouver Island woman dies in crash on Hwy5

RCMP cruiser extensively damaged after being rammed, attacked by a man with an axe near Canora, Sask. File / Global News

VANCOUVER – A woman from Vancouver Island has died in a single vehicle crash early this morning on Highway 5.

Clearwater RCMP say at about 4 a.m. the vehicle was heading northbound when it went off the road about five kilometres south of Blue River.

The vehicle flipped and landed on its roof and police say the woman, who was a passenger, did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.

The male driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor and road conditions were good at the time.

The identity of the woman has not been been released pending notification of next of kin.
