A 41-year-old Surrey man died in custody early this morning following an arrest by Vancouver Transit Police last night.
Transit police officers arrested the man at 11:30 p.m. last night for irrational behaviour on a city bus at the Surrey Central bus loop. The man did not resist arrest and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers took the man to hospital and after arriving went into medical distress. Despite receiving immediate assistance, he was pronounced dead just after 12:30 a.m.
The Independent Investigations Office was notified and Surrey RCMP will be investigating the death.
