Bridge jumper presumed drowned

REVELSTOKE, B.C. – An Okanagan man who jumped from an 25 meter bridge did not resurface and is presumed drowned.

Emergency crews were called to the Laforme Creek Bridge following a report of a missing swimmer at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

RCMP were told the man jumped from the Laforme Creek Bridge, about 20 km north of the Revelstoke Dam on Highway 23 North, into Revelstoke Lake water about 15 meters deep.

“Revelstoke RCMP, with assistance from Revelstoke Search and Rescue, immediately commenced a search of the area for any signs of the man which included the use of an RCMP vessel,” says Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky.

The search for the 28-year-old Coldstream man was called off at 9:45 p.m. when darkness fell and is to resume Thursday.
