UPDATE: Dive team recovers missing Whitecourt man’s body

EDMONTON –  The search for a missing 19-year-old Whitecourt man ended Wednesday evening, when rescue crews recovered his body from a local pond.

Emergency personnel, divers and volunteers had been searching a body of water in Whitecourt’s Rotary Park since Tuesday afternoon, when the man was last seen.

RCMP say the pond is used for family fishing in the summer and skating in the winter.

On Tuesday, the 19-year-old’s family was also on scene helping with the search.

Whitecourt RCMP say they used security video from the park as part of their investigation.

The man’s body was recovered around 5:25 p.m. Wednesday.

His family has asked for privacy. The man’s name will not be released.

RCMP say Rotary Park will remain closed until Thursday.

Whitecourt is about 180 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
