TORONTO – Doctors in Scotland were surprised to find a decade-old sex toy protruding into a woman’s bladder from her vagina.

Medical staff found the five-inch sex toy after they examined a 38-year-old woman who arrived at hospital complaining of extreme fatigue, dramatic weight loss and shaking, according to the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

The woman’s vesicovaginal fistula led to obstructive uropathy, a condition where the flow of urine is blocked and backs up into the kidneys.

The medical report says the woman admitted that she used the toy under the influence of alcohol with a partner 10 years ago and could not recall if she removed the item or not.

Experts say it is common for people to deny knowing the origin of foreign objects in human orifices when they are discovered due to fear or embarrassment.

The case report says the Scottish patient had a normal IQ, no signs of depression or psychosis and had not been subject to any abuse.

The medical report says it that although it is highly uncommon for “such a large foreign object to go unnoticed in the majority of instances” as the vagina contains nerve endings and is extremely sensitive, the case is the first known time a sex toy has been left inside a woman for as long as a decade.
