UPDATE: Injured bear shot and killed in Port Coquitlam by conservation officers

UPDATE: A four-year-old male bear was shot and killed by conservation officers.

Conservation and RCMP officers are warning residents along the Coquitlam River to keep their doors closed because of an injured bear wandering the area.

An adult bear was spotted in Gates Park after it made its way across the Coquitlam River and into a townhouse complex on Gately Avenue in Port Coquitlam last night. Conservation officers were called to the area and as they were attempting to find the bear, it charged an officer, who was forced to shoot the animal. The bear fled into the greenbelt and has not been found.

RCMP and conservation officers searched for the bear until nightfall.

The search will be resuming this morning.
