Watch above: raw video of a house fire in Cathedral Bluffs
SASKATOON – Firefighters are still on the scene of a house fire just outside of Saskatoon that has caused a million dollars in damage.
Saskatoon firefighters were called out to Cathedral Bluffs around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call of a house fire.
Crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and began an aggressive attack.
“The house was fully involved, the garage section was burning from one end to the other and the roof of the house was on fire as well,” said David Nahachewsky, a Saskatoon Fire Department battalion chief.
“With new construction we have limited time before the house is pretty much a write-off and unfortunately this time with the limited water supply, the winds and the extent of the fire before it was reported to us it’s going to be a loss.”
Firefighters had trouble shutting off the natural gas due to heavy flames and two cars and a propane tank in the garage posed hazards to crews battling the blaze.
The house was vacant however the homeowner suffered a minor burn injury as he was attempting to move vehicles prior to the arrival of fire crews. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
