KELOWNA — The Okanagan is in for a major downpour.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire Okanagan.
It says thunderstorms will be moving through the valley, dropping heavy rain.
Environment Canada says the thunderstorms may generate bursts of extremely heavy rain with local amounts of 25 to 50 millimetres in a few hours or less.
There may be some localized flooding and a chance of hail.
Environment Canada says the thunderstorms will be approaching from the south.
The threat of heavy rain has prompted officials to conduct an inspection of the terrain affected by last week’s Smith Creek wildfire in West Kelowna because periods of intense heavy rain may cause erosion or debris flows.
