Fire crews in Delta are battling an early morning suspicious fire at a Delta elementary school.
Flames caused extensive damage to the Sunshine Hills Elementary school on Bond Boulevard.
Fire investigators believe someone targeted the school and deliberately set the blaze.
Six fire trucks were called to the scene after reports of a fire burning against a wall of the school.
Delta Fire Chief Dan Copeland says the fire went up the side of the building and got into the facade of the school.
“Crews mounted a very aggressive attack and we were quite successful in containing it early on, but a few hours later we are still working on some hot spots,” he says.
Copeland says the fire was contained to one room, but there is significant water damage. It is estimated to be around $100,000, not including smoke or water damage.
No one was injured.
Delta police are investigating what caused the fire.
