KELOWNA, B.C. – Travelers have become used to short lines and little to no wait at Kelowna International Airport (YLW).

Not anymore.

According to Jenelle Hynes, YLW Business Development and Community Relations Specialist, the Kelowna International Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Canada, which is starting to impact wait times.

Last year the airport hit a record of 780,651 travelers compared to 729,175 in 2013.

This increase means it will take longer for passengers to get from check in onto a plane.

“Like many of the larger airports across Canada and the US, we are seeing longer wait times going through security at specific times,” says Hynes.

She says Kelowna travelers need to allocate more time for the entire process.

Hynes recommends arriving 90 before a domestic flight and two hours before an international flight. This is double the previous recommendation of 45 minutes before a domestic flight.
