Hundreds protest violence in Gaza at Vancouver Art Gallery

VANCOUVER — Hundreds of people protested at the Vancouver Art Gallery today, to speak up against violence in Gaza. The demonstration was just one of many taking place across the country.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the rally was an emergency response to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

Despite international calls for both sides to lay down their arms, the crisis goes unabated. Israel is ramping up its efforts to destroy underground Hamas tunnels, being used to smuggle contraband and give militants safe passage.

Here in Vancouver, protesters marched down four city blocks and listened to three speakers. Many families attended, with the aim of spreading the message to stop the barrage of rockets and urge Prime Minister Stephen Harper to stop backing Israel.
