People in an apartment building in Abbotsford were jolted awake this morning when a car drove through several suites.

It happened around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Peardonville Road and Countess Street.

The van drove through a stop sign and through the wall of one ground floor unit before crashing through the bedroom wall in a second ground floor unit.

It landed at the foot of the bed, where a man was sleeping.

The occupants of the suites were not injured, but the female driver was trapped and had to be removed from the car.

She has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is not known, but police say the driver may have been in medical distress before the collision. Speed is also a possible factor.

The suites directly above the damaged units in the three-storey building have been evacuated as a precaution because of significant structural damage.
