Local musician to open for one of country music’s biggest superstars

Watch above: One of country music’s biggest stars will be performing in Edmonton next week but there’s one local man who is poised to experience the thrill of his life; he’s been picked to headline for the musical sensation. Our Kim Tams sits down with Trevor Panczak.

LETHBRIDGE – He’s often referred to as the gentle giant of country music in southern Alberta. Trevor Panczak has been writing, singing and performing since he was 14 years old. He has thousands of local performances under his belt, but the 33-year old couldn’t believe the amazing news he received this past Sunday.

Panczak has been chosen to be the opening act for Tim McGraw, one of the biggest country music stars in the world.

“I got the best call of my life from Shawn Sakamoto. He said, ‘What are you doing on the 22nd? Do you want to open for Tim McGraw?’ I said, ‘Let me think about it. Okay yes!'”

Panczak was raised on a farm near Magrath and those who know him say he’s never given up on his dream of becoming a music superstar. He recently achieved a Canadian first by advancing to the national final of the 26th annual Colgate Country Showdown in Nashville, Tennessee. Panczak was one of five finalists in the largest country music talent search in America.

He has opened for many acts including Ian Tyson, Dan Seals, Aaron Lines, Julian Austin, George Canyon, Jimmy Rankin and Keith Urban. But Panczak has never wavered from his small town values and upbringing. He continuously partners with local charities to improve communities in the area.

One dollar from his album ‘Roll On‘ is donated to the Ronald McDonald House children’s charity.

Sakamoto, vice president of Sakamoto Entertainment, says Panczak’s clever lyrics and laid back humour captures the hearts of audiences wherever he performs.

“He is at that point now. He has some great music coming out. Trevor has an album being produced in Nashville right now that is really taking him to the next level. It’s time to get him out there on the big stage and performing in front of the biggest audiences in Canada.”

Panczak and Tim McGraw perform on Tuesday, July 22 at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
