Brett Kissel leads Canadian Country Music Association Awards nominations

TORONTO — Canadian country music stars appeared on Global stations Wednesday morning to announce this year’s nominees for the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards.

Brett Kissel of Alberta leads the way with eight nominations, including Single of the Year, Album of the Year, CMT Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

Kissel’s name was also on a list of Male Artist of the Year nominees announced on The Morning Show in Toronto by 2013 CCMA winner Kira Isabella. Also nominated are Alberta’s Gord Bamford and Bobby Wills and B.C. natives Dean Brody (who lives in Nova Scotia) and Dallas Smith.

Brody and Bamford have six and five nominations respectively.

Isabella’s name was on the list of Female Artist of the Year nominees read out by Brody on Global Halifax’s Morning News — along with Montreal-born but Nashville-based Terri Clark, Saskatchewan-born Jess Moskaluke, Toronto’s Lindi Ortega and Alberta’s MacKenzie Porter.

Newcomer Moskaluke is also up for Rising Star and Interactive Artist of the Year.

Group/Duo nominees were announced on Global Edmonton’s Morning News by Tim Hicks. They are: Autumn Hill, The Boom Chucka Boys, The Road Hammers, Small Town Pistols and The Western Swing Authority.

The CCMA Awards will be handed out Sept. 7 at Rexall Place in Edmonton during a televised ceremony hosted by Rick Mercer and Jann Arden.
