SUV plows into southeast Edmonton business

EDMONTON – A vehicle smashed into a small strip mall in Edmonton’s Forest Heights area Tuesday evening.

Paege Hrdlicka was working at a salon at the time when she said she felt a rumble in the building, located at 106 Avenue and 79 Street.

When she looked outside, she saw the two front wheels of an SUV inside the health supply store next door.

“[The driver] just came out and she was pretty shaken up and crying,” she said.

“The first thing she said was, ‘I’m a new driver, I’m so sorry.'”

It’s believed the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

“We were just glad that no one was hurt,” Hrdlicka said. “It’s all you can really hope for in these.”

Police said they don’t plan on pressing charges against the driver.
