KAMLOOPS– There was a dramatic rescue near Kamloops, Thursday afternoon of the Honourable Lord Pumpernickel.

That’s a cat, by the way.

A cat who found himself stuck near the top of a hydro pole.

His owner, Ashley Diehl, believes he got chased up the pole overnight Monday or early Tuesday morning, then found he couldn’t get down.

She called the SPCA, the Humane Society, the Fire Department, RCMP and BC Hydro, but no would help.

She laid out blankets and put food and water at the base of the pole in hopes he would come down.  All day Tuesday and Wednesday, Diehl or someone in the family would wait under the pole, trying to coax the cat down.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Finally, on Thursday afternoon, a family friend was able to arrange a rescue by BC Hydro.

Two workers went up in a bucket truck.  One disconnected the power, while the other donned leather gloves and grabbed the snarling, scratching cat.

Ashley Diehl says the Hydro workers are her heroes.  She says The Honourable Lord Pumpernickel was a little skinnier, and a little more skittish than usual, but otherwise, not the worse for wear.
