In Kamloops this summer, the doctor is in. Six of them, in fact.
Dr. Shirley Sze of the Thompson Region Division of Family Practice announced today that six new family doctors will arrive in Kamloops over the summer. Another six will also be arriving as part of a residency program.
“It’s fantastic,” said Sze, who said the original aim was just two new doctors.
She credited a marketing campaign and a new project manager for the recruiting success.
Close to 30,000 people in the Thompson region are without a family doctor, and the region is chronically underserved compared to the Lower Mainland.
Earlier this year, Ashcroft lost one of two doctors who were recently recruited, while Logan Lake lost its only doctor in March.
