VANCOUVER – The University of British Columbia is hosting eight weeks of engineering and science camps, better known as ‘Geering Up.’
Over the last 19 years 80,000 kids from Kindergarten to Grade 12 have attended the week-long camps.
“Geering Up is just to get kids excited about science,” said co-director Jakob Manning. “Just get them enthralled because at a young age kids are so impressionable. They’re picking their favourite colour, they’re favourite action hero and we want them to give science a chance.”
The camp instructors are all students themselves and most them plan to become teachers.
“We need them to give it a chance at least,” said Manning.
