One man dead, another charged after crashes near Canmore

CALGARY- A bizarre string of events near Canmore has left one man dead, and saw an alleged drunk driver hit one of the police cruisers investigating the incident.

Just before midnight on Saturday, RCMP were approached by the driver of a semi, who said he might have hit a pedestrian on the Trans-Canada Highway. After a search, the body of a man was found near Canmore on Highway 1.

He has been identified as a 30-year-old from Calgary, and it’s believed he was walking in the eastbound driving lane of the highway when he was hit.

While police were pulled over to investigate, an eastbound vehicle hit one of the cruisers—despite its emergency lights being on. Fortunately nobody was injured.

Officers suspected the driver was impaired, and 37-year-old Josh Edward Johnson of Calgary has since been arrested and faces numerous charges.
