Alberta Tory leadership candidate not urging ex-premier Redford to quit
EDMONTON – Alberta Tory leadership candidate Ric McIver won’t go as far as a fellow candidate when it comes to former premier Alison Redford.
Thomas Lukaszuk says Redford should consider resigning as a member of the legislature given more reports of extravagant spending from her days as premier.
Lukaszuk says enough is enough and that Redford’s spending doesn’t represent the views of anyone in the legislature.
But McIver says while he, too, is unhappy with the spending, he says no politician should seek to overturn the will of the electors.
Redford, who represents Calgary-Elbow, resigned as premier in March amid mounting evidence of big-ticket spending on her offices, her travel, and on staff in her inner circle.
This week, it was revealed her office billed taxpayers almost $330,000 in expenses for a government staffer to travel the world to do advance work for her foreign trips.
