Two suicide attempts on Thursday temporarily closed the northeast and west legs of the LRT.

The first incident happened just before 6 a.m. at the Whitehorn LRT station in the northeast.  A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police were later called to a second suicide attempt at the Westbrook LRT station at around 2 p.m.  It’s believed the man in that attempt was not seriously injured.

In both cases, Calgary Transit shut down the lines while police investigated.

Joan Roy, the executive director of the Distress Centre in Calgary and a suicide prevention expert, stresses people with suicidal thoughts should get help immediately.

“If you are contemplating suicide or in need of someone to talk to, please call our crisis line at 403-266-1675.”
